Elderton Wines, Barossa Valley
Elderton's home vineyard in Nuriootpa was first planted in 1894 on the banks of the North Para River. Lorraine and Neil Ashmead took on the then-derelict property in 1982, 72 acres of old vines included, and released the first wine under the Elderton label that same year.
Their sons Cameron and Allister Ashmead have led the family business since 2003, with a simple philosophy: great wine is made in the vineyard. Every Elderton wine is estate grown across four Barossa sites, from the original Nuriootpa block to Mengler Hill, one of the highest vineyards in the region.
Both the Command Shiraz and the Ashmead Cabernet Sauvignon poured on the night come from those original Nuriootpa vines.
